The Giants undefeated run this season has ended, and the 12 game undefeated record away from home has come to an end as well. The Cleveland Browns hit the Giants hard this Monday night, with the Browns running away by 35 to 14.
The New York Times reports:
CLEVELAND — Eli Manning of the Giants is well paid for doing many things well, but tackling is not among them.
So when circumstances forced Manning to try to bring down Eric Wright of the Browns after a fourth-quarter interception Monday night, it was not a good omen for the defending Super Bowl champions.
Manning cut across the field as Wright streaked down the left sideline with the ball in the fourth quarter. At the Giants’ 40-yard line, Manning threw himself toward Wright in a rolling tackle attempt. Wright skipped by him and Manning tumbled near the Giants’ bench.
By the time Manning pounded the ground with his fist and returned to his feet in front of Coach Tom Coughlin, Wright had crossed the goal line with a 94-yard scoring play, the 73,102 fans were roaring and the Browns had secured a 35-14 victory. The result dropped the Giants to 4-1 and lifted the Browns to 2-3.
“It was sloppy, sloppy football,” said Manning, who threw three interceptions after throwing only one in the previous four games. “Three turnovers by my part is unacceptable.”
The Giants not only lost their undefeated record in this discombobulated embarrassment, but they also saw the end of an 8-game winning streak over two seasons and a 12-game streak of regular-season victories away from home….full story here…
